Philip Simmons High School serves an ever-growing community of approximately 800 students in grades 9-12. We provide a comprehensive education by offering a robust selection of academic courses including Advanced Placement, dual-credit courses, and honors-level courses; additionally, our students are involved in Career and Technical Education courses which include, but are not limited to, Medical Terminology, Sports Medicine, Digital Desktop Publishing, Accounting, Introduction to Engineering Design, Business and Entrepreneurship, and Introduction to Engineering Design. Students at Philip Simmons High School can enroll in fine arts courses such as orchestra, art, drama, band, and chorus. The Air Force JROTC program, which began in 2020, continues to flourish, allowing for the enrolled cadets to develop their self-discipline, collaboration, and leadership skills. Along with our rigorous and challenging programs of study, Philip Simmons High School offers a variety of sports, clubs, and organizations led by dedicated coaches and sponsors. These various opportunities and activities develop well-rounded learners, set high expectations for students, teach valuable lessons in stewardship, volunteerism, sportsmanship, and teamwork, and help all of our students develop the skills associated with the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.   

Over the past several years, Philip Simmons High School’s graduating class has grown, earning millions of dollars in scholarships each year. Our 2025 graduates received just over 11 million dollars in scholarship offers, and 90% of the graduates plan to enter postsecondary programs to further their education.  In addition to having one of the highest graduation rates in the Lowcountry, we also have one of the highest membership percentages for National Honor Society in the state. 

Our SAT and ACT scores exceeded state and national averages for the 2024-2025 school year. Our students took over 300 AP exams, and 83% earned a 3 or higher. The exams with the highest percentages of 5s earned were for 2-D Art and Design, Drawing, Human Geography, and Calculus AB. The exams with the overall highest passage rates of 90% or higher were 2-D Art and Design, 3-D Art and Design, Drawing, English Literature and Composition, and U.S. History.

Within our Fine Arts programs, our Chorus had 3 All-State qualifiers, 7 students selected for Low Country Region Honors, 4 American Choral Directors Association Honors members, and 3 students chosen for the District Honor Choir.  The PSH choral program was also selected to perform at the South Carolina Music Educators Association conference. In Visual Arts, 2 PSH students received the Scholastic Gold Key award and 1 student received the Silver Key award. Additionally, the PSH Band program earned a Superior Rating at 3 competitions during the 24-25 school year. Our band had students qualify to attend All County, All Region Honor Band, and 2 students were selected for All State call backs.

Philip Simmons High School athletic program continues to set the bar high, with an impressive 10 Region Championships earned this year in Baseball, Boys Basketball, Boys Golf, Boys Tennis, Boys and Girls Track, Girls Volleyball, Girls Cross Country, Football, and Wrestling. At the state level, every team made it to the SCHSL playoffs. We proudly claimed four State Championships in Girls and Boys Cross Country, Boys Golf, and Girls Track, along with two State Runner-Up finishes in Baseball and Boys Track. PSH continues to be committed to demonstrating excellence. This is reflected in our student’s individual achievements. During the 24-25 school year, fifteen student-athletes signed to play at the collegiate level and seven were selected for prestigious North/South All-Star teams. Highlighting our year of success, we were named Carlisle Cup Champions, earning the highest point total of any AA school in the state over the past three years. We are the only public school to ever win the AA Carlisle Cup and the only school in Berkeley County—at any classification—to achieve this remarkable honor. In total, for the 2024-2025 school year Philip Simmons High School athletes received over $250,000 in athletic scholarships.

Philip Simmons High School continues to expand and grow while engaging, cultivating, and producing high levels of success among our students. Iron Horse pride lives in all of our students, parents, faculty, and community. The support from GameDay Club, Band Boosters, PTSA, and our community is beyond measure. The members of Philip Simmons High School continue in their endeavors to cultivate an enriching and welcoming environment for all students to achieve their utmost potential in preparation for their future success.
