Hello, SFM, Families and Guardians, I want to take a moment to recognize, our Lead Guidance Counselor, Ms. Nelson, for the outstanding job she did organizing Career Day. She coordinated several organizations to come and speak with our students about future opportunities, creating a meaningful and engaging experience for all. This was a rich opportunity that will help guide our students as they begin thinking about their future paths. Great job, Ms. Nelson, we are truly fortunate to have you on our team! Dr. C

On Wednesday March 18, the 7th Grade Chorale and 8th Grade Concert Choir participated in the State Assessment for choirs.

8th Grade Concert Choir received the rating of "Good"
7th Grade Chorale received the rating of "Excellent"

Students had to prepare two Concert pieces that were adjudicated by three choral professionals, and then use their music literacy skills to perform a third piece that they have never seen or heard.

Congratulations to our choral scholars!!

Good morning, SFM Parents and Guardians,

We are just one week away from DRC Beacon testing. Our students will take the Reading assessment on March 24 and the Math assessment on March 26. Please encourage your child to get a good night’s rest before each testing day so they are well-prepared to do their very best. Additionally, we ask that all car riders arrive on time during testing days to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted start for all students.

We also have several exciting events coming up! Club Day will take place on March 18, and we will host a Huey Magoo’s fundraiser on March 26.

I would love to see our Sedgefield families come out to support us at Huey Magoo’s from 4-7pm, on St. James Avenue. Your financial support directly contributes to enhancing resources and opportunities for our students here at the “New Sedgefield.”

Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you there!

Hello SFM Parents and Guardians,

As a baseball fan, I like to say that we have rounded third and are heading home for the winning run. Students will be home on Monday so our teachers can put the finishing touches on third quarter grades. When students return to the “New” Sedgefield, they will begin the fourth quarter of the school year, with just 13 instructional days before Spring Break.

We have several exciting events taking place over the next three weeks. Students will participate in DRC Beacon testing, Club Day, our fundraiser at Huey Magoo’s, Pie an Administrator (who doesn’t want to pie Dr. C?), and our 8th grade field trip to the International African American Museum.

I am excited to see the progress our students have made from August until now. Please encourage your student to take their time and do their very best on the DRC Beacon assessments. These tests give students an opportunity to practice their test-taking skills and build resiliency as they prepare for the high-stakes SC READY assessments.

These assessments play an important role in our school’s report card rating. We are currently five points away from moving from Below Average to Average. Our teachers and students have put in the work, and we have a clear path forward.

Please continue to encourage your student to stay focused, embrace the grind, and finish strong. We need that winning run in the bottom of the ninth, and I know the New Sedgefield will deliver.

See you at home plate.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As the weather begins to warm up, we are excited to see students enjoying the spring season. With the warmer temperatures, we want to kindly remind families that students are still expected to adhere to the Berkeley County School District (BCSD) dress code. Following these guidelines helps maintain a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment for all students.

Please review the middle school dress code with your child:

Walking shorts are appropriate; short shorts and mini skirts/dresses are not allowed.

Sunglasses may not be worn inside the building, except prescription (RX) sunglasses.

Hats, head coverings, or handkerchiefs are not allowed inside, unless a physician provides documentation for medical reasons.

Tank tops, halter tops, fish-net shirts, cut-off shirts, and bare midriffs are not permitted.

Gloves may not be worn inside the building.

Suspenders must be properly worn on the shoulders.

Pants must be worn at the appropriate waist level and may not be see-through.

Belts must be worn properly, buckled, and tucked into loops.

Clothing with vulgar or obscene language or symbols, or that depicts alcohol, tobacco, drugs, weapons, or sexual content is not allowed.

The principal may establish additional guidelines consistent with this policy.

We greatly appreciate your partnership in helping our students dress appropriately and stay ready to learn. Thank you for your continued support in maintaining a positive and safe school environment!

Please find the entire policy on BCSD's website!

Warm regards,
Dr. C

This morning at approximately 8:10 am, we placed the school on hold while administrators and the Security and Emergency Management team conducted random and suspicionless searches. Weapons screeners were utilized.
The hold has now been lifted, and we have resumed our normal schedule.
If you have any questions, please contact the school at 843-797-2620.
Thank you for your continued support of Sedgefield MS.
