An Evening in the Arts was a resounding success last night, showcasing the incredible talents of our students from the Art Chameleons and the Chameleon Choraleers. From incredible songs to stunning visual art displays, the event celebrated creativity and hard work. We are proud of our young artists and grateful to everyone who attended and supported our school community!

We are hiring for the 2025/2026 school year! We are looking for a 1st and a 5th grade ELA teacher to join our amazing team.

Congratulations to our STEAM Night prize winners! We are so proud of everyone's estimation skills. Thank you to all our parents who filled out the School Climate Survey. What a great night!

The Kinder Chameleons had the pleasure of working with Engaging Creative Minds (ECM) artist, Jordan Giancursio. She taught each class a different ballet dance. We learned ballet vocabulary as well as the beginning, middle and end of a ballet dance. The ballet dance was integrated with our fairytale unit. We learned about the beginning, middle and end of a fairytale and that there are important elements that work together to create a fairytale! Fairytales begin with ”Once upon a time", they have magic in them, they take place in a forest or a castle, the number three is special, they have good vs not so good and they end with happily ever after! We were able to wow our parents with a performance at the end of the week! We had a great time working with Ms. Jordan!!

We had the best time at STEAM Night last night. Thank you to all our teachers for hosting incredible sessions and thank you to all our families who joined us. We hope everyone has as much fun as we did!

This week our third grade classes kicked of their new science unit, Life Cycle of a Plant with a guest speaker. Mr. Walton shared his knowledge and expertise of all things carnivorous plants! Thank you Mr. Walton!

✨🎭 BCSD Theatre Showcase 2025 🎭✨
What an incredible weekend for AIMS Players as they attended the BCSD Theatre Showcase! We kicked things off on Friday with engaging workshops with the students of HE Bonner Elementary, where our students explored and collaborated, through storytelling, tableau, Hip Hop Shakespeare, and Commedia dell'Arte, and improvisation games. Then, we had the privilege of working with Mr. Thomas Keating from Charleston Southern University, who shared his expertise and insightful feedback with our talented students. But the real showstopper? Saturday’s performance of Fairytale Café! Our performers delighted the audience with their original monologues. It was a HIT! A huge bravo to all the students, teachers, and supporters who made this weekend such a success. Theatre is alive and thriving in BCSD, and we can’t wait to see what’s next! 🎭✨ #BCSDTheatreShowcase #FairytaleCafe #TheatreMagic

This week we had another positive referral! Ms. Bresnan wrote "Way to go above and beyond to think about the community at large Kameron. This positive choice helps custodians, classmates and self! I'm really impressed by the initiative and care." We are so proud of you Kameron!

The Link Up concert at the Gaillard on Friday was a hit! It was a kid friendly show, where our 4th graders sang, played their recorders and did some movements. The 4th grade students came prepared and ready to perform. It was an international experience with songs from all over the world! Way to go 4th grade!

🎯ACCURACY🎯 as both athletes and mathematicians was the name of the game Friday in 5th grade! Students worked together to solve division problems that involved a 2 digit divisor, relying on place value strategies and their understanding of the relationship between multiplication and division. With every right answer, teams earned an opportunity to earn points on the target. Students had a container of different balls they could use to hit their target. At the end of each work session, the team with the highest number of points earned (which was not always the group with the most questions answered...) won. What a fun way to prepare for an upcoming unit assessment!

This week our 3rd graders had another great Artist in Residence with Ms. Cat Brantley! Students explored theme and figurative language with Mrs. Cat while creating mandalas that reflect their personal themes. They will use watercolors and pens to craft designs that evoke specific moods, aligning with reading standards. Different types of water color techniques are being used such as using salt and creating different types of lines to create patterns.

Today we celebrated our Terrific Kids for the month of March! These Terrific Kids were chosen by their peers and teachers for their amazing character trait of perseverance. Congratulations to our TERRIFIC Chameleons for March!

Today we had another amazing performance at HHA! The College of Charleston's Opera students came and performed Goldie B Locks and the Three Singing Bears. All our students loved the show and learned valuable lessons about telling the truth, thinking before you act, and forgiveness. We can't wait to see what they perform next year!

Today our PTA celebrated our second graders for their incredible performance last week! Thank you so much to our PTA for these delicious treats and for supporting all our chameleons.

Last night was our second grade show: Dream It, Solve It; where numbers and imagination take the stage., and it was incredible! This show was is an HHA original, created by our 2nd grade team and our fine arts team from math infusions. Several songs were created by Cathy Liebenow. We are so lucky to have such talented teachers and students. Way to go 2nd grade chameleons we are so proud of you!

Today TJ received a positive referral from Ms. Bresnan! Ms. Bresnan wrote "TJ has jumped in to help with cafeteria spills three times this week, none of which he has been involved in causing. His desire to go above and beyond and help his friends is so wonderful." Way to go TJ!

Yesterday we had another excellent professional development! Mrs. Liebenow and Mrs. Steele taught staff how to incorporated music thematically into their instruction. Teachers also practiced the brain dance and how to incorporate dance movement into their classroom. We are so lucky to have the best Fine Arts teachers at HHA!

Don't forget to sign up for STEAM Night on March 27th! We can't wait to see you there!

Over the last week we celebrated Read Across America Week. This week long celebration culminated with a Book Character Parade yesterday. All our chameleons looked great! A love for reading was obvious this week at HHA!

We have been busy at HHA this week. Children’s musician Roger Day worked with each first grade class to write an original song, he also provided PD for our staff. Students learned about the writing process, main idea, editing, and revising while writing their songs with Mr. Day. To wrap up the artist in residence experience, each class was a part of Mr. Day’s concert as they performed their songs on the stage. With Mr. Day’s help, students got the opportunity to sing loud, jump high, and dream BIG!
