May the 4th be with you! BCSD Family Night with the Charleston Battery is going to be a blast!

This week Kindergarten has had a blast working with the Annex Dance Company! They teamed up with the dance company to learn more about dance and tied it in with the force and motion science unit. They incorporated dance with our vocabulary terms push, pull, and collide. Each class created a dance that represented force and motion and performed for each other! We fantastic way to explore science and dance! Thank you Annex Dance Company for joining us this week!

The Goose Creek Rotary Club joined us today for their second visit with our 2nd grade chameleons. They read the book Apple Orchard Park. Our 2nd graders received a coloring and activity book to go along with the story. Thank you Goose Creek Rotary Club for the support!

On Saturday, AIMS Players traveled to Columbia, SC to participate in the South Carolina Theatre Association's Theatre for Youth Festival. The group performed in individual events, watched a production by Columbia Children's Theatre, and participated in workshops in dance, pantomime, playwriting, and stage makeup.

Friday night was our 1st and 2nd grade show, Be the Hero! Our 1st and 2nd grade chameleons created this show during their infusions. They wrote the script and even created an original song for the show! It was an incredible performance! Thank you to our fine arts team, and our 1st and 2nd grade teachers. None of this would be possible without our amazing teachers! Way to go HHA

Today HHA participated in Purple UP! This district wide spirit day was one way we show support for military kids across the district! During the Month of the Military Child, Purple Up! Day recognizes some of the military's most unsung heroes - their children. The day encourages everyone to wear purple representing all branches of the military and showing unity with each other

Calling all Chameleons! We would love to celebrate all our HHA alumni that graduate this year!! Please join us on Friday May 17th at 8:30am for our Grad Parade!

Things are back in full swing after spring break, here at HHA! Our second through fifth graders had a wonderful field trip to the Gaillard Center to see Ranky Tanky perform. Ranky Tanky is a Grammy Award winning ensemble that specializes in jazz-influenced arrangements of traditional Gullah music.

Last week our fifth grade students had a wonderful artist in residence with fiber artist Kristy Bishop. Students learned about natural fabric dyeing, practiced the scientific method with various dyes, and created a dye chart. Using the chart, students were able to plan and create a piece of fabric art. Kristy Bishop is a fiber artist with expertise in natural dyes, indigo, weaving, and textile surface design. She has been a partner with ECM since 2014. Living and working in Charleston, Kristy spends much of her time teaching fiber techniques to students in public schools, adult workshops, and summer camps. Thank you to ECM, Kristy and our fifth grade team for making this possible!

Howe Hall AIMS' very own Cecile Potter placed second out of all of the Berkeley County Elementary students at the Berkeley County Clerk Art show on March 28th! Cecile created a multimedia collage inspired by artist Georgia O'Keeffe using watercolor and tempera paint. Congratulations Cecile!!!

Last Thursday we had a special performance by the College of Charleston's Opera students. They performed their rendition of Jack and the Beanstalk. All our students got to see this incredible performance! We are so lucky to have such talented artists visit out school.

Last week our second grade students created and sold products and services to our kindergarteners for part of their unit on economics. Kindergarteners got to shop and purchase their favorite items! What great life skills our chameleons are learning here at HHA!

We also had a great turn out for our book fair! Thank you to our incredible staff for putting together a great night and thank you to our amazing HHA families for participating!

Today our fifth graders got to do a great math infusion with Ms. Pond and Ms. Broman. Ms. Pond set up a store in our multipurpose room and students had thirty seconds to "shop." Once they had their items they were tasked with calculating the total of all their items. Students were able to practice multiplying decimals. Way to go Chameleons!!!
